THE STATE OF THE TAG TEAM DIVISION
News Story
Good afternoon everyone, Angelica Brooks here with some breaking news coming out of PRIME HQ in Vegas.
Following the highly competitive tag team title match on ReVival 23 between the Dangerous Mix and the PRIME Tag Team Champions, Eminence, I can report that following the tag title match at Culture Shock the belts will be put on the shelf for the foreseeable future.
“It’s not a decision myself or the Executive Staff want to make by any means,” Lindsay Troy told me by phone. “If you look at the number of teams we currently have on the roster compared to the number we started with when we kicked the division off with Survivor, it’s been a challenge to keep the division fresh and exciting. With Eminence retaining on Friday, I want the Winds of Change to have their rematch against Jared and Justine at Culture Shock, and then maybe sometime down the road if there’s enough interest we can bring the division back.”
The CEO has a point. With David Fox of the Dangerous Mix considering retirement, Randall Schwartz of the Masters of the Multiverse suffering a broken arm in Mexico at the Lucha Especial event (not to mention being Missing in Action since then), and the Bandits currently Banditing, PRIME’s once robust tag division is down to an anemic three teams: Eminence, the Winds of Change, and 2Become1 of the Love Convoy.
“Tag team wrestling in PRIME won’t be going away completely, though,” Troy continued. “PWA will have its own tag division starting up at PWA 02 and it’s my hope that PRIME will have representation there, both at PWA shows as well as PRIME hosting PWA tag matches on our programming.”
The PWA Tag Division is certainly of interest, as SHOOT Project, MVW, sVo, and HOW all have tag teams that could take part. Who, if anyone, from PRIME will represent the company remains to be seen, but rest assured we’ll be the ones to break the news first when it happens.
